Planes and Polygamy

Ti's flight has been delayed so I've been by the phone waiting to hear updates from him.

Hawaiian Air has been our choice of airline to fly for years. The only other Hawaii based airline with flights to the mainland was Aloha Air, possibly the worst airline on this planet. . . I kid . . . Sort of . . . Well, ok, not at all. It really was the worst airline. So Aloha Air closed down, went bankrupt actually, with the official statement being "due to high oil prices and unfair competition"

Yeah, couldn't be because no one wanted to fly on your sorry 'ole planes anymore.

Wow, I'm hostile!

This morning from San Diego, Ti calls saying something is going on with the plane and the flight has been delayed now 11 hours. A first for Hawaiian Air. As I write this, Ti and his colleagues have been at the airport for over 12 hours and have to wait an additional 2 before a plane will be ready to fly. Super raunchy.

And the hostility continues.

So today while waiting by the phone, I sat and watched the news.
Oh, how I wish I could make this photo clearer, if for no other reason than to illustrate that regardless of religious ideology or lifestyle, everyone deserves a good brow wax. Brow growth, like polygamist men, know no boundaries. Believe me, every last one of you would be in agreement on this had you seen the photo before it got all mushed up on this post.

For real though, it's been sad watching the women respond to the media. In the shows I watched, they seem disassociated. Maybe they were in shock but really their affect was so flat when they spoke, I'm not sure they were totally present when they did have their children with them. For women who just had their children snatched from them (illegally according to them), they didn't exactly exude love and warmth when talking about their kin. Seemed like they said mostly stuff they were coached to say.

A question I've been asking myself is around an issue regarding the role of APS (adult protective services). Could the removal and mental health assessment of these women be justified under APS?? Having worked with that agency on several occasions, I know the answer is a fat NO without the women's consent, which, of course, they would not do. But I think in keeping with the law, if these women don't receive some sort of psychological treatment, the alternative would be incarceration for allowing the abuse to happen. Can you imagine any of these women in a prison cell?

So I suppose I do feel some compassion for them, well, mostly condescending pity. . . but some compassion.

And I want my husband back home. I just waxed.

no, i cannot imagine any of them in a prison cell and yes, you are right about the dissociation they for sure relied on during the living hell of the compound...it actually disturbs me that the neighborhood/community didn't raise more concern about what was going on. At least enough to get someone to go in there and do a home visit. If it's commonly known they're breaking the law with polygamy, child marriage, and isolating children- I would take part in some kind of call to action if one of those things went up near me...I mean its so blatant, in your face dysfunction/ breeding ground for abuse. I'm unable to make all the necessary points in this run on comment.

That is soooo lame about the delayed flight... watch- we end up missing my brothers wedding next week due to airport shenanigans.
